winter plant care
The Short Answer
Keep flowering florist cyclamen in bright, indirect light with cool temperatures. Wisconsin and Clemson recommend 60 to 65 F days and nights around 50 F. Water when the surface feels dry, keeping water out of the crown. Clemson warns that buds fail to develop above 70 F; that is not a precise plant-collapse threshold.

Buy buds, not just open flowers
Wisconsin recommends choosing plants with many buds just starting to open and sturdy, succulent leaves. Florist cyclamen is a tender Cyclamen persicum hybrid and does not tolerate frost. This desk covers the flowering indoor plant, not hardy outdoor cyclamen.

Find a cool, bright place
Use bright indirect light. Wisconsin notes that an east window is often suitable, with a southern exposure sometimes better in a Wisconsin winter. Keep plants away from warm drafts and heat vents. Both sources recommend 60 to 65 F days and nights around 50 F; cooler conditions extend the display.

Water without soaking the crown
Check whether the soil surface looks and feels dry. Water thoroughly when it does, keeping the plant moist but not soggy. Wisconsin describes bottom watering by standing the pot in water for 15 minutes. Clemson allows watering along the pot edge or from below to avoid wetting the tuber. After the soak, return it to its display location rather than keeping it in a water bath.

Read symptoms cautiously
Wisconsin notes that both overly wet and overly dry soil can produce yellow leaves, while hot, dry conditions or insufficient light can also cause yellowing and failed buds. A care check is not a diagnosis. Check moisture and room conditions rather than treating every drooping plant as thirsty.

After the flowers
Remove spent flowers by taking the stem cleanly from the crown. Reblooming florist cyclamen at home is difficult according to Clemson. This desk focuses on the flowering period and does not promise a set bloom duration or a guaranteed rebloom.
